INTRO:
DotA2 on the surface is a battle between two teams trying to destroy each others bases. Each individual player controlling a unique character with different abilities.
Whilst these above statements are true; they are not the way a high level player views the game.
Understanding the true objective of the game:
DotA2 is ultimately a game of farming gold and this should be the way you view the game. Your objective when you start the game should be to make sure your carries get more gold than the enemy.
In DotA2 there are so many ways that you can influence the gold your carries receive and we will cover some of them in this quick guide.
Why is the game about farming gold?:
Gold is the most important part of DotA2 for one major reason; You exchange gold for stat increase.
When you get gold, you spend it on items. Every item gives you more stats. Sounds simple right? That’s because it is. If you have more gold than the enemy you start EVERY fight with a stat advantage. This means that if both players play their Hero perfectly, the player with the stat advantage will win everytime.
Why? Because he either has more Damage or more HP/Armour or both.
The value of Exp:
Exp is almost equally as important as gold. However if you get your carries gold efficiently they will also naturally gain good Experience, that is why we recommend focusing on gold.
Get gold and the exp comes with it.
Understanding the Roles in DotA2 and who should be getting the gold on your team:
In Dota 2, team roles are most often ranked from 1-5. Number 1 will be your main carry, number 2 your secondary carry, number 3 is most often the Offlaner, position 4 is normally for roaming supports and finally position 5 is for hard supports.
These numbers represent how much gold and exp priority these players should have on your team.
Therefore you should always give Exp and Gold Priority to your 1 and 2 (hard carry and mid laner).
Why do this?
They are called carries for a reason, give them gold and level advantage and they can do serious damage, whilst if they are under farmed they will do low damage and become useless.
Heroes designed to be carries have it inbuilt into there core function that once they get x number of items or gold they become insanely strong. The difficulty is getting them to that much gold and exp and getting them as fast as possible. Ie before the enemy gets there carries fed.
5 TIPS TO HELP CARRIES GET GOLD FASTER:
-Stack camps for them (if you don't know what stacking is, check out our guide here:).
-Always let carries take kills and farm.
-As a support you can pull your own minion wave to a creep camp so it becomes easier for the hard carry to farm in the early game. (See our guide on this here:)
-As a carry you should look to take camps/creep stacks in between waves. You should look to have your support set up multiple stacks for you to take once you reach lvl 10+.
-A bottle is a great item for carries. Carries should aim to go back to base as little as possible, so getting a bottle and refilling it with runes is a great way to stay on the map.
